Just bought a linksys wirelessrouter with speed booster and cant connect to the internet???

i followed the instructions and cant connect to the internet on my computer. i checked to see if my desktop can be used for wireless internetn but it appears that it might not be. i have a windows XP on my desktop. because of this, i dont think my laptop can pick up the wireless signal becuz the internet cannot work on the desktop. i have dsl. the FAQ say that if u have dsl, the router will automatically dial into your ISP so u no longer need to dial in manually.
